Arbiter Vildred Is Back: Post-Patch RTA Guide for Epic Seven (May 2026)
Arbiter Vildred's May 8 balance patch gave him +70% Evasion and bonus damage vs Light heroes. Pick rate jumped 26x, win rate climbed 4 points. We pulled 84K Champion+ RTA picks to show you the best build, artifact, counters, and AI draft tips for Arby in Epic Seven.
Been a while since
Arbiter Vildred sat in the corner without us hearing any approaching ruins, and on May 8th Smilegate finally said "okay, fine." The patch handed
Arbiter Vildred exactly the toy Light Knights deserved: a reworked Archdemon's Might that now pops at the start of battle — not just on revive — giving him +70% Evasion and a bonus damage modifier against Light enemies for 2 full turns. Also Sweep transfers two debuffs onto the target now, which is sometimes hilariously annoying.
Eight days and 84,062 Champion+ picks later, the data verdict is in:
Arbiter Vildred is back, and the Light meta is having a bad week.
The interesting parts are where he wins (hint: anywhere there's a Light hero standing around), what artifact most players are stacking on top of him (it's the wrong one), and a Draft Assistant simulation that thinks every single one of us is picking him too early.
The Anti-Light Buff Actually Works (Sorry,
Boss Arunka Spammers)
If you've ever wondered whether "bonus damage against Light enemies" is real or just a flavor line on a skill description — congratulations, this chart is for you. We sorted every
Arbiter Vildred game by how many Light heroes the enemy team brought to the party:
| Light heroes on enemy team | Games | |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | 15,427 | 48.2% |
| 1 | 34,145 | 50.4% |
| 2 | 25,267 | 55.2% |
| 3 | 8,267 | 58.9% |
| 4 | 956 | 65.1% |
A clean monotonic ramp from 48% to 65%. Into a no-Light enemy team he's basically the same
Arbiter Vildred everyone forgot about for a year. Into a full-Light enemy team he's winning two out of three games and laughing through the screen. The bonus damage on Archdemon's Might isn't subtle — every Light hero you add to the other side moves the WR another 3-4 points in his favor.
This is also why his ban rate jumped from 0.13% to 6.3% overnight. Light comps still own the ladder, so prebanning
Arbiter Vildred is a defensive reflex now — even before you see what the opponent actually brings.
The Best Arbiter Vildred Build
Crit Damage + Torrent is both the most-picked and the highest-WR
Arbiter Vildred build (54.2%). It's the answer — if you build him like this you'll be fine and you can stop reading this section.
But the build worth raising a glass to is Immunity + Riposte (6%, 53.1%) — and yes, that is Degen Arby knocking on the door. Miss those days a little.
The Best Arbiter Vildred Artifact
Shadow Winds 7 is what 98% of you are sleeping on. 56.1% WR over 1,777 picks — four points above the Decrescent everyone defaults to. Swift Attack pops at the end of his first turn, kicks him back up the timeline for a second action, and that second action gets to be another empowered Dark Blade inside the 2-turn Archdemon's Might window. The artifact also throws in +20% Attack and 10 Soul at battle start, just in case the rest of the kit wasn't already enough.
Decrescent (62%, 52.4%) is the perfectly fine standard pick — extra Evasion stacks with AM, the counter proc pays out, and your
Arbiter Vildred will be a respectable above-average pick. Shepherd of the Hollow (5.8%, 53.5%) is a clean Decrescent swap if your Decrescent is busy on someone else — same Evasion stat, swapping the counter for HP-based damage scaling. Summer Photogenic (12%, 53.6%) is the spicy tech pick against share-tank frontlines like
Estelle — it ignores damage sharing on AoE, which is basically "the Estelle answer." Avoid the old-school Alexa's Basket (49.4%) — it had a good run a few years ago and it's time to retire it.
Who Arbiter Vildred Beats
Almost everyone on the menu is Light, and the four Light Knights running the meta —
Monarch of the Sword Iseria,
Empyrean Ilynav,
Boss Arunka,
Genesis Ras — all show up underneath him. He plays
Boss Arunka alone in 27,960 matchups (basically her entire post-patch career) and wins 58.9% of them. The Light Knight class quietly became
Arbiter Vildred's dinner menu. They had a good run.
Arbiter Vildred Counters (The Heroes That Actually Beat Him)
Every hero on this list shares one trick: a survivability gimmick — revive, sustain, damage limit, or damage sharing — that blunts the raw burst Dark Blade is built around. If you can't die to him in two turns, he doesn't get to be
Arbiter Vildred.
Arbiter Vildred Win Rate by Warfare Rule
| Warfare Rule | Picks | Win Rate |
|---|---|---|
| W4 - Support | 20,113 | 54.0% |
| W1 - Offense | 19,398 | 52.9% |
| W3 - Resistance | 19,747 | 51.2% |
| W2 - Defense | 19,401 | 51.1% |
He likes the fast rules. W1 Offense lets him kick down the door before the enemy can set up; W4 Support's bonus Souls give him free Soulburn fuel to nuke people. Slow it down with W2 Defense or W3 Resistance and tanks get time to cleanse, reset, and remember what defense buttons look like — he drops two points.
What Our Draft Assistant AI Noticed (You Might Be First-Picking Him Wrong)
We just retrained the predictor and Draft Assistant on the May 16 dataset and ran 200 self-play matches — 2,000 draft decisions — with
Arbiter Vildred guaranteed in both pools so the AI couldn't dodge the question.
The Draft Assistant thinks Arby is a closer, not an opener
The cleanest split between the AI and the human ladder is when in the draft they reach for him. Split into the three draft slots — team opener, mid pair, team closer — the two crowds don't agree:
| Team-pick slot | Humans (84K picks) | AI (200 matches) |
|---|---|---|
| Opener (team's first pick) | 14% | 9% |
| Mid pair | 57% | 33% |
| Closer (team's last pick) | 29% | 58% |
Humans slot
Arbiter Vildred in the middle 57% of the time — drop him in early next to whatever tank opened, lock him in, vibes. The AI, given exactly the same choice, doubles the closer rate and barely opens with him at all. Its instinct: don't show your hand. Wait for the enemy to commit. Then drop him in once the Light tells are loud.
Is the AI right? Genuinely, maybe. His win rate climbs +7 points from a 0-Light enemy team to a 3-Light one — the info that makes him good is info you don't have on turn 1. Opening with him on instinct is leaving a chunk of his ceiling on the table.

Arbiter Vildred trigger.
TL;DR — The Cheat Sheet
- The patch hit. +4 WR, 26× pick rate. He wins 65% of his games into a 4-Light enemy team. Light Knight mains, this is your warning.
- Build: Crit Damage + Torrent. Artifact: Decrescent is fine, but Shadow Winds 7 is the 56.1% answer if you can spare one.
- Counters:
Ruele of Light,
Frieren,
Perfumer Byblis. Anyone who refuses to die in two turns. - Draft tip from the AI: stop first-picking him. Hold him for the closer slot when the Light comp shows up — that's where his ceiling actually lives.
